Active, retired cops in drug trade
Three men, including a retired policeman and an active police officer were arrested involvement in the drug trade in Quezon City late Sunday night.
Chief Superintendent Guillermo Eleazar, Quezon City Police District director, identified the drug personalities as PO2 Joseph Soriano, 44, Don Jacky Cortez, 32, both residents of Barangay Socorro, Cubao, Quezon City; and retired officer SPO1 Eduardo Valle, 53, of San Jose Del Monte, Bulacan.
It appears that Soriano, who was an active officer assigned at Personnel Holding and Administrative Unit in Camp Crame, and Cortez, known as “Jack-Jack,” were both included in the Philippine Drug and Enforcement Agency target list.
Joint operatives of QCPD-Cubao Police Station (PS-7) Drug Enforcement Unit, and PDEA, conducted a drug sting against the three men along P. Tuazon Boulevard, between 10th and 11th Avenues in Barangay Socorro, at around 11:30 p.m.
Upon consuming a P1,000 worth of illegal drugs, operatives immediately collared the drug suspects.
Police were able to recover 20 sachets of shabu, the marked money, and a mobile phone from the three.
The arrested drug suspects will be facing drug-related charges while police are doing follow-up operations to locate possible cohorts of the three. (Alexandria Dennise San Juan)
Wall claims life
A supposed drinking spree of three friends in Quezon City turned tragic when the concrete wall near them accidentally collapsed and pinned them, leaving one dead, and two others wounded last Sunday afternoon.
Investigators of the Quezon City Police District identified the fatality as Jimmy Alcera, a 45-year-old parking attendant; and the injured as Grace Cabigting, 29, and Ronald Anova, 24, truck driver, all residents of Barangay Sto. Domingo, Quezon City.
Police said that the three were having a drinking spree in front of a house at the corner of Don Manuel and Biak na Bato Streets, Barangay Sto.. Domingo at around 5:40 p.m.
However, in the middle of their session, the concrete wall behind them suddenly collapsed, pinning down the three.
Concerned citizens sought help from their barangay authorities who rushed Alcera to East Avenue Medical Center where he was declared dead on arrival due to serious injuries all over his body.
Meanwhile, Cabigting and Anoya were brought to Philippine Orthopedic Center where they are still undergoing treatment.
Police said that they are still coordinating with the owner of the concrete wall for possible liability. (Alexandria Dennise San Juan)
Groper goes behind bars
A construction worker was put behind bars after he barged inside the room of his neighbor and touched her body while she was sleeping Sunday night in Pasay City.
Police identified the suspect as Mateo Villanueva, 36, a resident of Dama De Noche Street, Pildera 1, Barangay 192, Pasay City.
Villanueva was arrested by members of the Airport Police Community Precinct who conducted a follow-up operation to apprehend the suspect.
Investigation showed that the victim was lying on her bed around 7:30 p.m. at her home along Dama De Noche Street, Pildera 1, Barangay 192, Pasay City. The suspect reportedly barged in the victim’s room and started to touch her private parts.
Police said that by the time the victim cried, the suspect immediately went out of the room. She immediately sought the help of her brother and reported the incident to Barangay 192 and to the precinct which led to the arrest of the suspect.
The suspect will be facing a charge for violation of RA 7610 or the Protection against child abuse, exploitation and discrimination. (Dhel Nazario)
