Tagbilaran City – Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) Secretary Roy Cimatu is scheduled to visit Bohol on Monday to check on the compliance of business establishments with environmental laws, particularly in the tourism town of Panglao, amid the government’s crackdown on environmental violators.
Provincial Environment and Natural Resources Officer (PENRO) Eusalem Quiwag confirmed the visit of Cimatu to the Manila Bulletin Friday.
Quiwag said the secretary will pass by Tubigon and Balilihan before going to Panglao in the afternoon.
Dr. Doloreich Dumaluan, Panglao Island Chamber of Commerce and Industry Inc. (PICCI) vice president, also confirmed Cimatu’s visit.
According to Dumaluan, the PICCI was informed of Cimatu’s visit and had discussed the impending inspection during a recent meeting.
Director General Ernesto M. Pernia of the National Economic and Development Authority (NEDA) last month said he expects resort owners to have already complied with environmental policies when inspections are made by authorities.
