Drug personality killed in shootout

An alleged drug personality was killed while one was injured when a drug bust resulted in a shootout in Quezon City late Wednesday night.

Investigators of the Quezon City Police District-Criminal Investigation and Detection Unit identified the fatality as Abdul Daimon, 29, and the wounded as Zanderford Dela Cruz, 18, both residents of Barangay Payatas, Quezon City.

Superintendent Rossel Cejas, chief of QCPD-Batasan Police Station (PS-6), said that their Drug Enforcement Unit monitored Daimon, known as “Rudy,” who was a notorious drug peddler in his neighborhood.

Joint operatives from PS-6 Drug Enforcement Unit, and Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency conducted a drug bust against Daimon near his house along Lower Jasmin Street at around 11:30 p.m.

When the undercover police officer handed the P500 marked money, back up operatives immediately rushed to the area prompting Daimon to run and hid inside his house.

Upon entering the suspect’s house, they chanced upon four other men later identified by the police as Dela Cruz, Michael Adipen, Rizen Sobrepena, and Nazeer Sindato.

Daimon, Dela Cruz, and Sindato were able to run outside the house, but when Daimon was about to be cornered by the police officers, Dela Cruz opened fire resulted in a shootout, hitting him on his right hand and a wound on his upper chest.

Meanwhile, Daimon who also fired towards approaching operatives using a 12 gauge shotgun, was hit with multiple gunshots , killing him on the spot.

Dela Cruz was rushed to East Avenue Medical Center where he was still undergoing treatment.

Police were able to arrest Adipen and Sobrepena, while Sindato was able to escape.

Recovered in the scene were a caliber 38 revolver, a shotgun, ammunitions, and 19 sachets of shabu. (Alexandria Dennise San Juan)

Man falls from billboard

Police are now investigating the death of a man who fell from a skeletal billboard Wednesday night near the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) office in EDSA, Guadalupe Makati City.

According to Makati Police Chief Supt. Gerry Umayao, the fatality, identified as Ruben Azares was found by a security guard of the MMDA lifeless, with his skull cracked and bones broken.

Investigation showed that the incident occurred around 9:51 p.m. along EDSA corner Orense St. Barangay Guadalupe Nuevo, Makati City.

According to the security guard, identified as Richard Nituda, he heard a loud bang in the area which he believed came from the skeletal billboard.

The Makati police are still conducting further investigation if the victim accidentally fell from the billboard or if he intentionally committed suicide. No immediate family members have contacted police yet regarding the victim’s whereabouts.

His remains were temporarily brought to the Rizal Funeral Homes for autopsy examination while police are contacting his relatives about the incident. (Dhel Nazario)

Cell phone recovered after holdup


A 19-year old man was arrested after he forcibly took the cell phone of a call center agent by pointing a knife at the victim while aboard a transport bus Thursday before dawn in Mandaluyong City.

Abbie Joie Ladera, 22, a call center agent, was aboard a transport bus going home to Quezon City when suddenly a man sat beside her, investigator said.

Charlito Solano, 19, pointed a fan knife at Ladera and forced her to give him her cell phone. Due to fear, Ladera immediately handed her phone over Solano.

When Solano alighted the bus, immediately Ladera followed and sought the help from the patrolling police officers near the VRP Medical Center in Barangay Hills along EDSA-Northbound.

The police chased Solano and eventually caught up with him. The police arrested Solano and recovered a fan knife from the suspect.

Ladero’s cell phone was retrieved.

Cop beaten up by drunks

A policeman on his way home ended up badly beaten by five motorcycle-riding men Thursday in Paco, Manila.

PS/Isnp. Edwin Fuggan identified the suspects as Dennis Miranda and his four nephews, reportedly all minors.

Initial investigation revealed that the victim, PO1 Christopher Pizzaro of Manila Police District-Pandacan Police Station 10, was traversing along Peñafrancia St., Paco, Manila around 1 a.m. Thursday when he chanced upon the suspects.

According to Pizzaro, the suspects blocked his way and mauled him. The suspects, however, claimed that the officer taunted them and allegedly fired shots, prompting them to attack Pizzaro and take his gun.

The suspects, reportedly drunk from a birthday party, subsequently surrendered themselves at Barangay 816, Zone 88 and are now under the custody of MPD Police Station 5.

Pizzaro is now in a stable condition but is still recovering from his head and body injuries. (Hans Amancio)
