Butuan City — The Bureau of Internal Revenue (BIR) in the Caraga region had stepped up its campaign against tax evasion.
More than 100 business establishments were surprised when officials and personnel of the BIR conducted tax mapping operations since Monday here.
The business establishments are currently under assessment and validation.
Two other business establishments here and in Buenavista town, Agusan del Norte were padlocked on Tuesday for alleged tax violations under the agency’s ‘Oplan Kandado’ drive.
“These 2 business establishments are temporarily closed as they are given 5 days to pay the right taxes to the government,” BIR Caraga regional director Jose Eric C. Furia said.
“We are also building up a case against a tax evader in this region,” Furia bared.
BIR – Caraga is eyeing a P6 billion collection target this year from the five provinces and six cities in the region.
Last year, BIR – Caraga’s revenue collection reached 99 percent.
Meanwhile, Furia said the agency is set to conduct tax mapping in Siargao Island, the tourist hub in Caraga region where several foreign and multi-nationals owning resorts and other business structures in the island are located.
