Iloilo City — As part of the Philippine National Police’s (PNP) internal cleansing program, at least 1,300 police officers in the Western Visayas region undertook surprise drug testing, Monday.
PNP Regional Office 6 Director Chief Supt. Cesar Hawthorne Binag ordered the surprise drug testing at Camp Delgado, the PNP regional headquarters here.
PRO-6 also launched the Squad System, which is a proactive strategy in internal cleansing, to address the problems of misbehaving cops in Aklan, Antique, Capiz, Guimaras, Iloilo, and Negros Occidental provinces.
“Its strategic objectives are to ensure the highest level of performance and discipline under service-oriented, God-centered and family-based personnel,” said Binag, who is also known as a devout Christian.
In the past year, several cops assigned under units of PRO-6 were dismissed by the National Police Commission (NAPOLCOM). Some of them were in President Rodrigo Roa Duterte’s list of alleged drug protectors.
Supt. Gilbert Gorero, PRO-6 spokesman, said that PRO-6 leadership vowed that cops found to be positive will be dismissed from service.
PRO-6’s internal cleansing does not only address drug-related issues, but also issues related to illegal gambling, according to Gorero.
