Cebu City – The Regional Foreshore Area Task Force (RFATF) of the Department of Environment Natural Resources (DENR) in Central Visayas is conducting a simultaneous inventory and inspection of all establishments in the coastal areas of Mactan Island, Lapu Lapu City in Cebu and Panglao Island in Bohol.
DENR Regional Director Gilbert Gonzales said the task force will compel resort and commercial establishment owners to comply with the clean water act and solid waste management act.
Gonzales said the task force was formed to protect the tourism destinations and ecological sites in Central Visayas.
He said a team was sent to Mactan Island last March 2 to check on the sewage and wastewater facilities and garbage disposal systems of establishments along the coast.
The group will come up with a list of establishments with environmental violations, operating without tenurial instruments and building structures beyond their properties.
The report will be presented during its regular ManCom meeting on Wednesday.
the Lapu Lapu government provided all the necessary technical assistance to the DENR teams during their visit last week.
Gonzales said 321 establishments in Panglao have been issued Notices of Violation after the visit of the task force.
