Norzagaray, Bulacan/Batangas City, Batangas/Calapan City, Oriental Mindoro — As police go all-out against illegal drugs in their respective areas of responsibility (AORs), some cops end up as casualties while other cops are caught on the other side of the fence.
Last weekend, two police officers were caught separately in for possession and use of illegal drugs Batangas and Palawan, while another cop was killed in a shootout with drug dealers in Bulacan.
Superintendent Gerardo “Gerry” Andaya, chief of police of Norzagaray, said one of his men, PO3 Ronaldo B. Legaspi, was fatally hit while engaging in a shootout with drug suspect Rolando Bermejo Padura, alias “Jay-Ar,” 32, single, a construction worker from the City of San Jose del Monte who was listed in the Priority Targets of the Norzagaray Municipal Police Station.
PO3 Legaspi succumbed to four bullet wounds in the body while Padura was also killed by other police officers involved in the shootout before dawn last Sunday.
Sadly, a 31-year-old policeman in Palawan who has been in active service for six years was arrested in a “shabu” sniffing session with two others in Puerto Princesa City last Friday.
Arrested along with Police Officer 1 Joy T. Celedonio in a police raid at 9:20 p.m. inside his rented apartment in Barangay Mandaragat, Puerto Princesa City were Jaymar Sto. Niño and Shaolin L. Magallanes.
In another police operation in Batangas City last Sunday, the team of Supt. Wildemar Tiu arrested two drug suspects in possession of 10 grams of “shabu” and one of them was Police Officer 2 Kristofferson Reyes, 32.
PO2 Reyes and his 52-year-old cohort, Henry Banaira, were nabbed in a buy-bust operation conducted by the City Drug Enforcement Unit (DEU) at 4:40 p.m. in Barangay Libjo, Batangas City.
