The Provincial Veterinary Office (PVO) is targeting to give anti-rabies vaccine to 63,388 dogs this year.
PVO head Mirian Tiongan on Tuesday said the free anti-rabies vaccination has been going on in the 13 municipalities of Benguet since February in coordination with the municipal agriculturists, barangay officials, the Department of Health (DOH), and the Philippine National Police (PNP).
Tiongan said four additional personnel were hired to help in the vaccination program so the PVO could meet its target.
She said the vaccines were sourced from the Department of Agriculture’s Bureau of Animal Industry (DA-BAI).
The free dog vaccination drive will run until May this year to highlight the Rabies Awareness Month with the theme “Barangay Kaagapay sa Rabies Tagumpay.”
Tiongan urged the public to be responsible pet owners, by subjecting their pets to vaccination.
In 2017, the Benguet PVO monitored three cases of rabies-infected dogs — one case each in Camp 1, Tuba; Ucab, Itogon; and Beckel, La Trinidad.
