A motorcycle-riding suspect who allegedly robbed a woman was shot dead during an encounter with policemen in Caloocan City early this morning.
The slain man who was identified only as certain “Tangkad” died on the spot after he sustained at least seven gunshot wounds in the head and body. He appeared to be around 30-35 years old, wearing a camouflage T-shirt and gray short pants, according to case investigator PO1 Dorald Cuyangoan.
Elements from Police Community Precinct 1 were patrolling along Edsa corner Tirano Street in Barangay 138 when 22-year-old Patrize Novio asked for their assistance.
Novio told police that she was waiting for a ride near a convenience store when two men on board a motorcycle robbed her at gunpoint. The men then sped off after they got Novio’s bag containing cash worth around P1,200.
All mobile units near the area were alerted after Novio gave descriptions of the two men.
A patrolling team led by Senior Insp. Jefferson Guillermo then spotted the suspects traversing toward Barangay 160.
Another patrol unit was able to corner the two men at Apple Ville, Libis Bukid.
However, the back rider later identified as Tangkad, drew a gun and fired at least two shots at the approaching cops but missed. The team then retaliated causing the suspect’s instantaneous death, police said.
Tangkad was positively identified by Novio. A caliber .38 pistol with live ammunition was recovered from him, according to PO1 Philbert Estangki, another investigator on the case.
Meanwhile, Tangkad’s cohort managed to escape toward an unknown direction.
Also recovered from the scene were seven empty shells of an unknown caliber of firearm.
Follow-up investigation is now underway to apprehend Tangkad’s cohort.
