Members of the Marine Battalion Landing Team-3 of the Armed Forces of the Philippines-Joint Task Force Sulu (AFP-JTF Sulu) recovered eight high-powered firearms during an operation in Sulu last night.
Brig. Gen. Cirilito E. Sobejana, JTF Sulu commander, said acting on a tip from a concerned individual, troops were able to seize the firearms at Sitio Kadkad, Barangay Pitogo, Calingalan Kaluang, Sulu at 7:30 p.m. yesterday.
An ASG member identified as Apo Eting who is guarding the four M16 rifles and four M14 rifles hastily fled the area through a motorized banca upon sensing the troops’ presence.
Sobejana commended the accomplishment of MBLT-3 under Lt. Col. Ramil Densing and extended his heartfelt gratitude to the local government unit (LGU) and populace of Calingalan Kaluang for their support and cooperation.
He said the support of the LGUs and community is very much needed to defeat the enemy.
“The leadership of JTF Sulu believes that with the support of LGUs and peace-loving Tausugs as manifested in the recent successful operations, more loose firearms will be recovered and more ASG members will be neutralized,” Sobejana said.
