Puerto Princesa to tap water from two rivers

Updated

By Jonathan M. Hicap

The Bureau of Corrections (BuCor) has allowed the Puerto Princesa City Water District (CWD) to tap into two rivers under its jurisdiction as sources of potable water for the whole city.

BuCor Officer-in-Charge (OIC) Valfrie Tabian and PPCWD general manager Antonio Jesus Romasanta signed an agreement for the water district to use the Montible and Lapu-Lapu rivers situated within BuCor’s Iwahig Prison and Penal Farm (IPPF) as water sources.

Also present at the signing were Iwahig Superintendent Richard Schwarzkopf Jr., BuCor Legal Office chief Daisy Castillote, BuCor spokesperson Eusebio del Rosario Jr. and the Puerto Princesa CWD’s Ronnie Fernandez.

The CWD, a government agency tasked to supply water to Puerto Princesa residents, will implement a water supply improvement project consisting of the construction of a water treatment plant, two diversion dams, pipelines and other facilities in the area.

Under the agreement, PPCWD will pay BuCor a fixed lease price per month.
