Businesswoman falls victim to “basag kotse” modus

A woman who parked her car at a hotel carpark in Pasay City Tuesday night fell victim to the notorious “basag kotse” modus, with the unidentified suspect carting away two expensive bags worth more than P200,000.

The victim was identified as 51-year-old businesswoman Geraldine Bernardo, a resident of Parañaque City.

Initial investigation revealed that on Tuesday, at about 7:02 p.m., Bernardo arrived at the hotel along Roxas Boulevard, in Pasay City.

Police said that Bernardo handed her car keys to the Vallet Parking attendant at the carpark before she left. When she went back, and got her keys from the parking attendant, she discovered that the left passenger window of her vehicle was smashed.

According to authorities, missing from the car were two expensive bags, one Louis Vuitton bag worth P250,000 and one Coach bag worth P25,000.

The victim then immediately brought the matter to the management of the hotel for a possible review of the CCTV camera at the carpark. However, the management said that there are no CCTV cameras installed at the parking area.

Police are still conducting follow-up investigations to locate the unidentified suspect. (Dhel Nazario)

Chinese national robbed by cab driver 

Police are hunting down a taxi driver who robbed a 20-year-old Chinese national during their trip in Makati City, a police report said.

The victim was identified as Orange Wang, who is currently billeted at a hotel in Pio del Pilar, Makati City.

Initial investigation showed that Wang boarded a THAN-THAN taxi on Monday at around 11:00p.m. While traversing along Arnaiz Ave. corner South Superhighway, in Makati, the driver suddenly declared hold-up and held her at knifepoint.

The driver took the victim’s cash money amounting to P20,000. The suspect then quickly sped off towards Pasay City but while driving, police said the taxi collided with an SUV, forcing the driver to flee on foot, leaving his taxi behind.

The cab is now under the custody of the Pasay City Traffic Bureau after the vehicular accident. The victim on the other hand, was assisted by a personnel of the Pasay City Police Station.

The Pasay police is now conducting follow-up investigations and continuously coordinating with other stations for the possible identification of the suspect. (Dhel Nazario)

Man gunned down in Tondo

A burst of gunfire has led to the discovery of a man who was found shot dead in a garbage heap along an alley in Tondo, Manila early Wednesday morning.

The fatality was identified as alias “Joice Bading”, believed to be in his 20s. The man died on the spot after he was shot on different parts of his body, said SPO4 Glenzor Vallejo of Manila Police District- Homicide Section.

Vallejo said that the incident happened in an alley in Purok 1, Honorio Lopez, Balut, Tondo district about 1:30 a.m.

A resident told investigators that he was about to sleep during the time of the incident, when he heard heavy footsteps and a man crying. Few minutes later, gunshots rang-out.

The residents immediately checked their area and found a man, wearing a polka dots dress, brown short pants, and a pair of pink slippers, slumped in a pile of garbage, Vallejo said.

As the investigators continued to ask for information, they learned that the man frequently visits the area and spend his time in playing Bingo game, Vallejo said.

The investigator also added that they found two sachets of suspected shabu and spent shells of still undetermined firearm in the crime scene.

Further investigation is now underway to determine the identity of the gunman and his motive behind the killing. (Analou De Vera)
