2-year-old girl dies in fire
A two-year-old girl sleeping inside her room died after a fire razed her house and their neighborhood in Quezon City Tuesday afternoon.
The Bureau of Fire Protection-Quezon City said that the fire started at around 1:05 p.m. in a residential area along K-7 Street in Barangay Kamuning, Quezon City.
According to Fire Inspector Rosendo Cabillan, the blaze reached fourth alarm within 20 minutes as the fire quickly spread to adjacent houses made of light materials.
Cabillan identified the fatality as Kyana Labasog, 2, while those who were injured were Avelino Sanggalang and Reylito Olalca,who sustained lacerations and first degree burn, respectively.
According to Labasog’s mother, she was doing the laundry outside their house while her daughter was sleeping at a room on the second floor when the fire broke out.
The cause of the fire was still being investigated but Cabillan said that they are looking into the possibility of faulty wiring.

Drug peddler slain
A notorious drug peddler was killed in an ‘Upper Barrel’ operation after the supposed drug sting turned into a shootout in Quezon City Wednesday after midnight.
Superintendent Tomas Nuñez, chief of Fairview Police Station (PS-5) identified the man as Vergil Leblora, known as “Kirat,” 43, a resident of Astor Street in Barangay North Fairview, Quezon City.
According to Nuñez, their anti-illegal drug operatives conducted pre-operations validating that Leblora, a drug surrenderee, last July 2016, continued to sell illegal drugs in their area.
PS-5 drug enforcement unit conducted the sting operation at around 1:10 a.m. near Leblora’s house along Astor Street.
PO1Raymark Paligutan, who acted as a buyer, was able to purchase a sachet of shabu from the drug suspect.
However, after the transaction, Leblora allegedly sensed that he was dealing with an undercover officer prompting him to draw his handgun and shoot the police in front of him. He missed.
Paligutan then retaliated, hitting Leblora in different parts of his body.
The arresting team rushed the drug suspect to the nearby FEU General Hospital but was declared dead on arrival.

2 drug peddlers nabbed
Two suspected drug peddlers were nabbed for possession of illegal drugs in a buy-bust operation on Tuesday in Tondo, Manila.
Police reports identified the suspects as 34-year-old Arnold Reyes Alipao of 77 Mercado St., Tondo, Manila, and 49-year-old Manuel Villanueva of Prudencia St., Tondo, Manila.
The buy-bust operation conducted by Station Drug Enforcement Teams (SDET) at around 9:30 p.m. along Prudencia St., Tondo, Manila, was led by P/Senior Insp. Val Valencia.
SPO2 Romel Pantig who acted as a poseur buyer, arrested Alipao and Villanueva after the former purchased three pieces of suspected shabu, from the suspects.
Three pieces of plastic sachets containing shabu and two P100 bills used as marked money were recovered from the suspects.
The seized pieces of drug evidences will be turned over to Manila Police District Crime Laboratory for further examination.
A case for Violation of Section 5 and 11 of Article II of Republic Act 9165 or the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act is now being prepared for filing before the office of the City Prosecutor. (Hans Amancio)
Speeding van kills teenager; girlfriend saved
Two lovers on their way home did not expect that it would be their last time together after a speeding white van killed one of them in Pasig City the other day.
Police identified the victim as Mhico Adrian Gregorio, 17, of No. 54, Col. Liksi Barracks, Barangay Caniogan, Pasig City.
According to SPO1 Miguel Torallo, investigator on the case, Gregorio was on his way home with his girlfriend Ruffa Mae Baldoza when the front left portion of a white Isuzu van with plate number ABK 1133 hit the victim as they were crossing the pedestrian lane on C. Raymundo Avenue corner E. Angeles Street, Barangay Sagad, Pasig City around 1 a.m. Tuesday.
Torallo added that there was no traffic light in the area and no traffic enforcers during that time, making it difficult and dangerous for pedestrians to cross.
His girlfriend, who was ahead of him as they were walking across the road, emerged unharmed.
Gregorio was not so fortunate.
An ambulance from nearby Barangay Bambang immediately responded to the scene and brought the victim to the Pasig City General Hospital for treatment. However, Gregorio was declared dead on arrival.
The driver of the van, identified as Rolando Gulapa, 42, of Acacia 2nd Street, Barangay Pinagbuhatan, Pasig City, was detained at the Pasig City Police Station and will be charged with reckless imprudence resulting in homicide. (Carizza Ibañez)
