CITY OF SAN FERNANDO, Pampanga — The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) Nueva Ecija Second District Engineering Office completed a total of 18 flood control projects amounting to P506 million last year.
According to OIC-district engineer Ricardo Puno, flood mitigation structures such as creek and river control were strategically built in areas normally plagued by flooding in the third legislative district of Nueva Ecija.
This comprises the cities of Cabanatuan and Palayan as well as the municipalities of Bongabon, Gabaldon, General Mamerto Natividad, Laur, and Santa Rosa.
“Completed flood control projects were built along Pampanga River and its major tributaries such as Coronel River in Gabaldon, Digmala River in Bongabon, Cabu and Minatula creeks in Cabanatuan City, and Sapang Buho River in Palayan City,” Puno said.
The flood control projects include the 710-lineal meter section of Cabu River Flood Control in Barangay Cabu, Cabanatuan City; 1,113-lineal meter rehabilitation of Calabasa Flood Control in Gabaldon; and 351-lineal meter rehabilitation of Pampanga River Control in Barangay Sapang Buho in Palayan City.
“These projects will protect hundreds of lives and properties in this area, and ensure momentum for economic growth will not be hampered by damages brought by flooding,” he added.
