Four killed in landslide in Compostela Valley

DAVAO CITY – Four were killed in Compostela Valley after a landslide hit two houses around 8:30 p.m., the Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office said.

Among those killed were Hazel S. Magallanes, 3 years old, and Joey Magallanes, one year old.
Initial information placed the incident at Mantarawod 2, Purok Bulawanon, Tandik, Maragusan, Compostela Valley.
Parents Reymond Magallanes, 29, and Rowena Sajulan, 22, were also killed by the landslide, while an 11-year-old Alvin Tiin, the brother of Rowena, reportedly survived the incident.
The landslide was caused by continuous light to moderate and isolated heavy rainfall.
The MDRRMO estimated the damage at P40,000 for the two houses affected by the landslide.
The MDRRMO said the provincial government has provided burial assistance and logistical support to the relatives of the family.
