Damage to agriculture caused by tropical storm Vinta in four regions in Mindanao and Eastern Visayas has reached more than P1.3 billion, the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC) said.
NDRRMC Executive Director Ricardo Jalad disclosed that most of the damage were sustained by rice and corn fields in the affected regions.
He said damaged to infrastructure in Regions 9, 10, 11 and Caraga in Mindanao was placed at more than P242 million, while 6,850 houses – 3,641 totally and 3,209 partially – were affected by “Vinta” in Region 9,10, 11, the Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (ARMM), as well as the MIMAROPA (Mindoro, Marinduque, Romblon, Palawan) region.
Affected families were placed at 168,081, or equivalent to 794,613 persons residing in 1,151 barangays in MIMAROPA, Eastern Visayas, Regions 9, 10, 11, 13, Caraga and ARMM in Mindanao.
Of this figure, 17,318 families or 84,766 persons were still in 92 evacuation centers, while another 5,584 families continued to receive assistance outside these evacuation centers.
Jalad said that five persons were confirmed dead along with 18 injured and 13 missing. Still being validated were 160 reported deaths and 163 persons still missing.
