The cab driver who was punched in the face by a furious female motorist during a traffic altercation filed charges of slight physical injury, unjust vexation and malicious mischief before the Quezon City Prosecutor’s Office on Tuesday.
Virgilio Doctor, 52, said he was physically and verbally abused by private car owner and call center supervisor Cherish Sharmaine Interior, 31. The incident occurred after Doctor attempted to overtake Interior’s car.
The video taken by an onlooker showing Interior as she struck Doctor in the face and tried to dismantle the side mirror of the taxi has since gone viral.
Doctor said that Interior cursed and shouted invectives while repeatedly striking him. He thinks Interior probably got mad after he honked the taxi’s horn because she was driving too slow. “Yung pasahero ko medyo nagmamadali pumasok (My passenger was in a hurry),” Doctor said.
Doctor also claimed that Interior got a tube or golf club and hit his taxi before she punched him in the face. The taxi driver, a stroke survivor in 2014, then got out the taxi and sat on the sidewalk.
Doctor said he had to get out of the taxi to rest due to fears of suffering another stroke.
The taxi driver and his operator had already coordinated with the authorities of the Land Transportation and Regulatory Board regarding the incident.
