Tropical Depression “Urduja” accelerated Thursday morning, placing several areas in Visayas and Bicol Region under tropical cyclone warning signal (TCWS) no. 1.
As of 5 a.m. Friday, Catanduanes, Albay, Sorsogon, Masbate, Eastern Samar, Northern Samar, Samar, Biliran, Leyte, and Southern Leyte were placed under TCWS #1 by the Philippine Atmospheric Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA).
“Urduja” was last spotted at 175 kms east of Guiuan, Eastern Samar.
With maximum sustained winds of 55 kph and gustiness reaching 65 kph, “Urduja” is expected to bring moderate to heavy rains within its 400-km diameter.
Residents in Bicol region, Visayas, Caraga and Northern Mindanao are advised to be alert against possible flash floods and landslides.
Meanwhile, due to inclement weather caused by “Urduja” classes in Albay (pre-school to elementary), Sorsogon (pre-school to elementary), and Camarines Sur (all levels), were suspended on Thursday, December 14.
