The Bureau of Immigration (BI) has assured international travelers that its personnel assigned in the different ports of entry will keep watch and remain vigilant in guarding the country’s borders even as the whole nation celebrates the Christmas and New Year holidays.

In his Christmas message to all Balikbayans, tourists and other passengers, Immigration Commissioner Jaime Morente said BI personnel manning the international airports and seaports will maintain a high state of alert throughout the holiday season.

“We are at your service during this season of homecoming and reunions.  As the Filipino nation and the rest of the world celebrates, we will be standing watch, on duty, keeping our borders secure” Morente said.

He added that the men and women of the BI are committed to making the holidays as peaceful and possible.

“We are working continuously to make your entry and exit experience as smooth and worry-free as possible,” the BI chief stressed.

He added that the bureau is working and coordinating closely with its counterparts abroad to keep the country and its families safe from the entry of undesirable aliens who might threaten or undermine the nation’s security.

It will be recalled that the BI placed its port personnel on the highest state of alert last November, shortly before the country hosted the weeklong leaders’  summit of the Association of Southeast Nations (ASEAN) in Manila.

The BI also banned its airport personnel from going on leave to ensure that enough manpower is available to service the needs of the traveling public.
