The Metropolitan Manila Development Authority is equipping 20 traffic enforcers with body cameras which can provide evidence during apprehension of traffic violators on the road.
MMDA Chairman Danilo Lim said the body cameras, donated to the agency, are a big boost to the agency’s campaign against corruption within and outside the agency, citing that the gadgets are among their wish list.
“The body camera is a big help to traffic enforcers while performing their duties. Most of the time, they are ones being complained for extortion,” said Lim.
With the body cameras, traffic enforcers can monitor and record incidents and interactions happening during operation and apprehension of violators, he added.
Traffic enforcers deployed on choke points along Edsa are the recipients of the body cameras, valued at P9980.
At the same time, motorists and pedestrians offering bribes to traffic personnel can also be recorded.
“Both ways, we can use the body cameras in going after errant road users,” said Lim who received the body cameras from Ferwin Lao, vice president of Worx Group of Companies, during turnover ceremonies on Thursday.
He said MMDA is planning to procure, hopefully next year, its own body cameras for traffic enforcers,.
Lao expressed optimism that the gadgets would help the agency in addressing the traffic problems in the metropolis.
“We realize that traffic is a big headache of Chairman Lim, somehow and some way, we want to help the agency also,” said Lao.
