Davao City – Mayor Sara Duterte-Carpio led the lighting of parks and the City Hall Grounds as part of the ceremonial launch in this city of this year’s Pasko Fiesta, Friday evening.
A major highlight of the launch was the ceremonial switch on of lights at the City Hall, the government square, as well as the People’s Park, and the giant Christmas Light at the Rizal Park.
Lights supplier Omni donated a 40-foot Christmas tree as a major centerpiece of this year’s celebration, while Philips designed the lights at the People’s Park.
City Tourism Official Generose Tecson added that the city also received a gift of a giant lantern from Pampanga, measuring 15 feet in diameter and weighing 1,000 kilograms.
The lantern was put up at the Sangguniang Panlungsod, which also opened a remodelled Centennial Park in official ceremonies Friday.
“Let’s celebrate these times,” Carpio said. “Let us celebrate this time with our families, and let us be a light to help the lives of Dabawenyos.”
Duterte also congratulated the departments that spearheaded the organizing for the Pasko Fiesta event, namely the City Tourism Operations Office (CTOO), Museo Dabanyo, City Environment and Natural Resources Office (CENRO), City Planning and Development Office (CPDO), Ancillary Services Unit (ASU), City Administrator’s Office, Central 911, City Engineer’s Office (CEO), Task Force Davao (TFD), Davao City Police Office (DCPO), and the Councilors from the legislative branch.
Since November, the City Hall Grounds have been decorated in a candy cane theme to prepare for this year’s event.
The budget for the city government-led event is P19 million, Carpio said in an earlier interview.
