Iloilo City — Five teenaged boys died after drowning off the coast of Dumangas town, Iloilo province Saturday.
The bodies of Ken Segura, Voltaire Jade Derutas, Stephen Lopez, Carlo Lopez, and Roger Derutas have been retrieved by responders of both the Dumangas police and the Philippine Coast Guard.
Chief Inspector Rene Gamuyao Obregon Jr. of Dumangas police said fatalities were among seven teenagers who went for a swim off the coast of Barangay Bacay.
Obregon said the waves suddenly got bigger, which caught the swimmers off guard. The boys were swept away by strong currents while two of their companions survived the incident.
Meanwhile, Dumangas Mayor Ronaldo Golez has ordered for the installation of a sign at the coastline of Brgy. Bacay to warn visitors of the dangers that the waters there pose.
