A wounded whale stranded along the vicinity waters of Barangay Pob Patnanungan, Quezon was rescued this morning, the Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) said.
The rescued whale, according to the PCG, was believed to be a sperm whale with an estimated measurement of 11.9 meters and approximately weighs three tons.
Search and rescue team disclosed that the whale sustained bruises and wounds in different parts of its body.
Investigation showed that an informant, Chester Coralde, reported to Coast Guard Substation Patnanungan that a whale was spotted and presumed stranded at the area near Heronima Beach Resort.
The PCG with Municipal Agriculture Office (MAO) and Region IV-A BFAR Patnanungan, later conducted a rescue operation..
PCG said the whale was turned over to Eugene Luces, acting head of Municipal Agriculture Office in Patnanungan Quezon for proper disposition.
