Government troops on Wednesday conducted air and artillery strikes on suspected temporary shelters of the Bangsamoro Islamic Freedom Fighters (BIFF) in two barangays in Maguindanao.
Capt. Arvin Encinas, the spokesman of the Army’s 6th Infantry Division, disclosed that the military offensives took place at Barangays Meta Data Unsay and Barangay Timbangan, Shariff Aguak, all of Maguindanao, at about 4 a.m.
However, Encinas said that they have not received reports of any casualties on the side of the terrorist group.
He said ground troops are conducting clearing operation in the area at press time.
The BIFF members are said to be led by one Commander Bungos.
“Namonitor at meron tayong mga na-receive na information from the civilians, residents sa area. Sila iyung nagbigay sa atin ng reports na iyan,” (We were able to monitor, monitor them and we receive information from the civilians, residents in the area. They were the ones who gave us the reports, specific report).” Encinas said.
He said soldiers used 105 mm Howitzers in bombarding the enemy. Air assets also took part in the strikes but refused to confirm if the FA50 fighter jets which were recently acquired from South Korea were used during the military operations.
“Ah huwag na nating i-ano kung anong klaseng air asset, basta air asset. Kasi medyo sensitive yung ginamit natin (We don’t need to (discuss) on what air asset. What was used is very sensitive),” he said.
