Clark, Pampanga – President Duterte ordered government troops to perform their mandated tasks as terrorism and insurgency remain a threat to public safety not only in Mindanao but also in the entire country.
Duterte was here Tuesday for the Change of Command Ceremony of the Philippine Air Force (PAF).
“I enjoin our troops to continue performing their duties just as well, since Martial Law remains in effect in Mindanao,” he stressed.
The commander in chief issued Proclamation 216 declaring Martial Law and suspending the privilege of the writ of habeas corpus in the whole of Mindanao including the islands of Basilan, Sulu, and Tawi-Tawi last May 23 following the terror attack of the ISIS-affiliated Maute Group in Marawi City.
Meanwhile, the President extoled the bravery and sacrifices of the soldiers who were killed and wounded in action during the five-month Marawi siege.
“That you have left your families and the comfort of your homes to serve the country is truly praiseworthy. Indeed the Philippines and our people are indebted to you because of the sacrifices you have made every single day,” he said.
