President Duterte met with Hollywood actor Steven Seagal in Malacañang Thursday night as the actor scouts for a location in the country for his upcoming movie.
The meeting was made possible after Seagal expressed his admiration for the President, saying Duterte is a good president and is instrumental in making the Philippines a safer place to live in.
According to the Palace, the action star was assisted by former Ilocos Sur Governor Luis “Chavit” Singson when the former made a courtesy call on the President.
Learning that Seagal’s movie is about illegal drugs and other crimes, Duterte reportedly told the 65-year-old celebrity that movies are a reflection of life.
He also reiterated to Seagal his strong stance against illegal drugs as it enslaves people to a form of synthetic chemical.
“Drug trade and production devastated many societies in Latin America, particularly Mexico, and the President said he does not want the Philippines to suffer the same fate,” the Palace said in a statement.
Duterte also reportedly told Seagal, a martial artist, that he used to take karate lessons when he was a kid.
In an earlier press conference, Seagal reportedly said he feels safe in the Philippines despite reports of killings brought about by the President’s drug war.
“I’m a big fan of the government, and I think Duterte is a very good president and he has been instrumental in making the Philippines an up and coming place,” Seagal reportedly said.
