President Duterte revealed that he made the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) the lead agency in charge of all anti-illegal drugs operations to satisfy the critics of his all-out drug war.
Malacañang released a copy of a memorandum that the President signed removing the Philippine National Police (PNP) and other concerned agencies from the roster of government agencies that will implement the campaign against illegal drugs.
In a speech during the relaunching of the refurbished Malacañang Press Briefing Room (MPBR) Thursday afternoon, Duterte hinted that he does not want to sign the said memorandum.
“Tingnan natin. Hayaan natin ang (Let’s see. Let’s leave it to the) PDEA. I will not comment. Basta sabi ko mukhang ‘yan ang gusto ng (I think this is what the critics what)–,” Duterte said.
“Maybe this will suffice for the stupid European Union (EU),” he added, referring to the the EU’s criticism on his drug war.
Duterte also said that the people should not blame him if something goes wrong in the campaign under the watch of the PDEA as he already did everything he can to address the drug problem.
“When something not to your liking is happening, do not look at me. Praise the bleeding hearts. Kasi ginawa ko na talaga lahat (Because I really did everything I can already),” he said.
The President also hit his critics who seem to have paid less importance to the uniformed men who were killed or wounded while carrying out drug operations.
“Ang nakakalungkot (What’s saddening is) they have cheapened the death of my soldiers and policemen,” Duterte said.
“Kung ang PDEA, konti lang ang patay, e di konti lang din mapatay sa kabila (If the PDEA incurred lesser deaths, then there would also be lesser drug suspects to die). This is better. Better for the bleeding hearts,” he added.
