Panukulan, Quezon – Twenty-three passengers and four crew members were rescued from a sinking boat by the Panukulan Emergency Response Team (PERT) and other rescue units off Barangay Dinahican in Infanta town.

Quezon Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (PDRRMO) action officer Dr. Henry M. Buzar said that Panukulan MDRRMO reported that M/B Recto carrying 23 passengers and four crew members sunk while on cruising to Calasumanga in Panukulan from Dinahican in Infanta town at around 3:30 p.m.

It was gathered that the Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) based in Infanta was alerted by MDRRMO for a coordinated rescue mission.

Christian Mabanlag of the PCG-Infanta said that according to the survivors, the ill-fated boat’s water pump malfunctioned and that a big hole was spotted on the lower part of the said vessel.
