Iloilo City – There is a proposal to increase the monthly wage of house helpers or kasambahays in Western Visayas region.
Lawyer Johnson Cañete, Western Visayas director of Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE), said the proposal was raised after an informal survey among DOLE workers, who employ house helpers.
Currently, there are two minimum wage rates for house helpers in Western Visayas. House helpers in cities and first-class towns are receiving P2,500 per month, while those in other towns receive P2,000 per month.
Cañete, who chairs the Regional Tripartite Wages and Productivity Board (RTWPB), said that while no petition for such an increase has been filed, RTWPB will instead take the lead by scheduling two public hearings on this proposal.
The first public hearing is on October 17 in Iloilo City while the second hearing will be on October 23 in Bacolod City.
