AFP, US forces to conduct capability, counterterrorism exercises

The Armed Forces of the Philippines and United States Armed Forces are set to conduct another capability development and counter-terrorism exercise in Taguig City and Aurora province on October 2, 10, and 11, 2017.

Marine 1st Lt. Maria Rowena B. Dalmacio, the Director of the Marine Corps Public Affairs Office, said the RP- US KAMANDAG Exercise 2017 will have its Opening Ceremony on October 2, 2017 at the Marine Base Rudiardo Brown in Fort Andres Bonifacio, Taguig City.

The opening ceremony according to Dalmacio will be attended by high-ranking officials of both the Marines and U.S..

The dedication of Engineer Civic Assistance Program (ENCAP) buildings, meanwhile, will be held on October 10, 2017 at Casiguran, Aurora Province while the Closing Ceremony will be held the following day at the MBRB, Fort Bonifacio, Taguig City.

Dalmacio said the exercise will focus on capability development objectives for Humanitarian Assistance and Disaster Response (HADR) and counter terrorism (CT).

Last week, Philippine and United States forces participated in an anti-terrorism activity designed to test and improve the ability of both countries to rapidly plan, coordinate and conduct counterterrorism operations.

Dubbed “Tempest Wind 2017”, the bilateral, interagency counterterrorism exerices was held at Clark Air Base in Angeles City, Pampanga and in Honolulu, Hawaii, from September 18 to 26.

About 1,200 US and Filipino personnel took part in the exerise whose scenario dealt with the hi-jacking of a passenger airline which took off from Sydney on its way to Honolulu, Hawaii.
