Malacañang has declared September 11, Monday, a special non-working holiday in Ilocos Norte in observance of the birthday of the late President Ferdinand Marcos.
Proclamation No. 310 on the holiday declaration in Ilocos Note province was signed by Executive Secretary Salvador Medialdea.
“The Ilocano community has been annually celebrating the birthday of the late Ferdinand E. Marcos and commemorating his life and contributions to national development as a World War II veteran, distinguished legislature and former president,” the proclamation read.
“It is but fitting and proper that the people of the Province of Ilocos Norte be given full opportunity to celebrate and participate in the occasion with appropriate ceremonies,” it added.
The President’s latest gesture came amid his friendly relations with the Marcoses. He previously endorsed the burial of Marcos at the Libingan ng mga Bayani despite strong opposition to his abuses during his martial law regime.
