JPE staff allowed to undergo tooth surgery outside cell

By Czarina Nicole Ong

The Sandiganbayan Third Division has allowed Jessica Lucila (Gigi) Reyes, the chief of staff of former Senator Juan Ponce Enrile, to have a dental X-Ray and surgery for the extraction of her tooth on September 7, 2017 from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m.

In a three-page resolution signed by Associate Justice Sarah Jane Fernandez and concurred by Presiding Justice Amparo Cabotaje Tang and Associate Justice Bernelito R. Fernandez, Reyes was allowed to go to the YSA Dermatology and Dentistry Center at Forbes Wood Height, Rizal Drive, Bonifacio Global City, Taguig to undergo the panoramic X-Ray.

She was allowed to proceed to the Center for Advanced Dentistry, Ground Floor, the Infinity Tower, 26th Street, Bonifacio Global City, Taguig to undergo her tooth extraction surgery.

“Such dental procedures shall be done at accused Reyes’ own expense,” the resolution read. “Accused Reyes shall likewise shoulder the costs of her security and transportation to and from the aforementioned addresses. She must be brought back to Camp Bagong Diwa on the same day immediately after said dental procedures.”

Reyes is currently under arrest and detention at the Taguig City Jail of the Bureau of Jail Management and Penology (BJMP) at Camp Bagong Diwa, Taguig, since she is one of the accused in the P172-million priority development assistance fund (PDAF) scam instigated by Janet Lim Napoles.

It was Reyes’ own dentist, Dr. Carlito Librando, who recommended that she have the dental procedures. However, the prosecution opposed Reyes’ bid to have a dental check-up outside of the jail premises.
