Justice Secretary Vitaliano Aguirre II today expressed willingness to place under the Witness Protection Program (WPP) witnesses in the slay of Grade 11 student Kian Loyd Delos Santos.
“If they will apply, we are willing to consider them to the WPP,” said Aguirre.
In the meantime, Aguirre has already ordered the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) to investigate the death of the 17-year-old victim.
In his Department Order 546 issued Friday, Aguirre instructed the NBI to conduct a parallel probe on the killing which has caused public outrage.
He told the NBI in his order to file appropriate charges against policemen involved in the killing “as evidence may warrant.”
The victim was killed during an anti-illegal drugs operation in Caloocan City on August 16.
Police claimed the victim was a drug runner and was killed when he resisted arrest and drew a firearm and fired at authorities.
After being killed, a .45 caliber pistol and two sachets of suspected shabu were found in the possession of the victim.
However, officials of Barangay 60 where Delos Santos was killed as well as his family disputed the claims of policemen.
