A family of five was pinned inside their car after it was crushed under the weight of a cement mixer truck that tilted after ramming into the center island of Mindanao Avenue in Quezon City yesterday afternoon.
Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) Spokesperson Celine Pialago said all the occupants of the Honda Brio, with license plates AOA-3301, were pulled out of the wreckage.
But Pialago said that the car’s driver, Ulysses Ramos, 35, was without a pulse when extracted from the vehicle, and taken to the hospital.
Also pulled out from the wreckage were Ramos’ wife Marife, 34; and their children Eulariza, 12; Eugene, 8; and Eurico, 4, all of whom sustained injuries after the accident at 5 p.m.
The report reaching the MMDA said the driver of the northbound cement mixer truck apparently lost control of the vehicle and veered to the left to avoid the Honda Brio, but tilted on its right as it rammed into the center island and then crushed the car.
Superintendent Cipriano Galanida, District Traffic Enforcement Unit chief, said the truck driver, who sustained minor injuries, was taken into custody by the QCPD-Traffic Sector 6 for investigation.
