10 Vietnamese caught poaching in Palawan

The Armed Forces of the Philippines-Western Command (AFP-WestCom) said Thursday that 10 Vietnamese poachers were arrested following an operation in El Nido, Palawan on Tuesday.

AFP WesCom spokesperson Captain Cherryl Tindog, said personnel from BRP Gregorio del Pilar (FF15) were on patrol when it spotted the Vietnamese fishing vessel Hua Huonh some 31 nautical miles off Tapuitan Point, Palawan, at 9:47 a.m.

Tindog said at about 10:56a.m., the crew conducted Board and search on FV Hua Houng and arrested the 10 Vietnamese crew on board.

Chief Supt. Wilben Mayor, director of the MIMAROPA (Mindoro Occidental and Oriental, Marinduque, Romblon and Palawan) regional police, said at least 70 slaughtered sharks were also discovered inside the fishing vessel.

The Vietnamese were identified as boat captain Nguyen Thanj Hiep, 46; Vo Van Lang, 47; Phan Dung, 49; Truong Cao Ky, 51; Dinh Van Hai, 46; Bui Van Bao, 30; Tran Ngoc Son, 24; Do Hung, 54; Nguyen Van Huynh, 56; and, Nguyen Cung Vu, 22.
