BUTUAN CITY – Full security measures are being extended at the Intensive Care Unit of MJ Santos Hospital here where the wife of slain Judge Godofredo B. Abul Jr., is recuperating.
Bernaddete Abul, 65, wife of Judge Godofredo B. Abul, Jr., 68, was said to be recuperating from bullet wounds and was still under observation.
Chief Supt. Rolando B. Felix, regional director of Northeastern Mindanao Police Regional Office 13 (PRO 13) ordered city police director Senior Supt. Percival Augustus P. Placer to immediately organize an investigating body to assist in the investigation of the incident and for the possible identification and arrest of the perpetrators.
Judge Abul, a presiding judge of the Regional Trial Court, Branch 4, Hall of Justice, Libertad, Butuan City, along with his wife, were about to go out from their garage on board a Mitsubishi Montero Sports when two unidentified suspects on board a motorcycle entered the gate at 10 a.m. on Saturday and peppered them with bullets.
The judge and his wife were supposed to attend a fellowship party at the Light and Life Methodist Church here where Judge Abul was also a pastor when the incident took place.
The Integrated Bar of the Philippines (IBP), Butuan City, Agusan del Norte, Agusan del Sur, Surigao del Norte and Surigao del Sur chapters voiced their strong condemnation of the killing of Judge Abul and urged law enforcement agencies to pool their resources for the resolution of the case.
It was learned that Judge Abul was handling sensitive cases at his sala, including drug cases and heinous crimes.
The probe team of BCPO is now following up all these cases that might lead to the solution of the crime.
On Feb. 2, 2017, retired Surigao City Judge Victor Canoy was gunned down while buying food at an eatery along Borja street in Surigao City.
On Feb. 6 this year, Surigao City prosecutor Manuel Tesiorna, 47, was wounded in a gun attack while washing his car outside his house in that same city.
In September 23, 2016, Judge Hector Salise of the Regional Trial Court (RTC) in Bayugan City, Agusan del Sur, survived an ambush along the national highway in Butuan City.
Salise, an anti-illegal drug advocate, was known to have handled sensitive cases.
