Cebu City – Relationships concerns were the most common issues for callers to the Tawag Paglaum (TP), a round-the-clock suicide prevention hotline in Cebu.
The hotline’s data from August last year up to the present revealed that 25 percent of the calls were relationship-related.
Inquiry on depression and suicide followed with 21 percent, while callers having negative thoughts placed third with 19 percent.
Tawag Paglaum said most of the callers were female aged 18 to 30.
Dr. Renato Obra, Vicente Sotto Memorial Medical Center’s Center for Behavioral Sciences Chief, said the hotline, which used to be the Hopeline Suicide Hotline, gests up to 100 calls daily and its responders are ready to listen to callers contemplating suicide.
TP’s numbers are: 0927-654-1629; 0939-936-5433; and 0939-937-5433.
Obra said people suffering from depression should open up and not keep it to themselves.
