Butuan City – The regional office of the Department of Health (DOH 13) will start assisting local government units (LGUs) in safeguarding the health of their constituents after the nationwide smoking ban took effect last Sunday.
Health officials and personnel of DOH 13 will closely coordinate with the LGUs for massive information and education campaigns on the smoking ban, it said.
“The DOH Caraga is enthusiastic and is looking forward to this step of our government to safeguard health, the health of our people and the health of generations to come,” DOH 13 Regional Director Dr. Jose R. Llacuna Jr., citing the Executive Order (EO) 26 signed by President Rodrigo R. Duterte last May 16, which imposes a nationwide smoking ban.
Under the EO, smoking will be banned in all public places including schools; work places; government facilities; establishments that provide food and drinks, accommodations and professional services; outdoor spaces like playgrounds, sport centers, church grounds, hospitals, transportation terminals, markets, parks, resorts, waiting areas, walkways and sidewalks; elevators and stairwells; locations where fire hazards are present; and public transportation.
