CHED warns public against bogus colleges, universities

By Mike U. Crismundo

Butuan City – The regional office of the Commission on Higher Education (CHED-13) on Saturday reminded the public against enrolling in higher educational institutions that are not accredited by the agency.

They also reminded the public not to be misled by educational institutions offering courses and programs not accredited by the CHED.

CHED-13 made the announcement after receiving reports that some educational institutions in some parts of the region, particularly in the provinces of Surigao del Sur and Agusan del Sur, were offering various courses without accreditation from the agency.

The agency advised the public to inquire into the permit or recognition of the educational institution from the government.

“The public is warned that the agency will not honor graduates from an educational institutions that are not accredited,” said CHED-13 information officer Ramil Sanchez.

In another development, the Sangguniang Panlalawigan (SP) of Agusan del Norte recently approved Provincial Ordinance No. 453-2017 that will provide cash incentives to all valedictorians and salutatorians in public and private elementary and secondary schools in the province.

Under the said ordinance, graduating valedictorians and salutatorians will receive cash incentives and a plaque each to be awarded on the day of their graduation. Valedictorians will receive P3,000 while salutatorians will receive P2,000.

The recipients of the cash incentives should be Filipinos and residents of the province of Agusan de Norte for at least six months, the SP ordinance added.
