Chief Inspector Silverio Ordinado Jr., La Union’s police information officer, identified the fishermen as Jerald Garcia, 19; John Paul Espino, 19; Bert Pascua, 35; Eduardo Garcia, 50; and Ramon Laranang Jr., 41, all residents of Barangay Tubod, Sto. Tomas, La Union.

Seized from them were 60 kilos of assorted fish, a fine mesh net and a fishing vessel.

Authorities said the net or boli-boli being used by the fishermen is strictly prohibited under Republic Act 8550 or the Fisheries Code of the Philippines.

The fishermen were brought to Rosario police station for the proper filing of criminal charges against them while the confiscated fish were distributed to charitable institutions.
