A Brazilian teenager caught trying to steal a bicycle in a city near Sao Paulo experienced a different kind of torture.
The alleged bicycle thief’s torture was a tattoo on his forehead that read: “I am a thief and a loser.”
A local tattoo artist and his accomplice both confessed to torturing the 17-year-old boy.
A cell phone recorded the incident, which was published on social media.
This led to the arrest of tattoo artist Maycon Wesley Carvalho dos Reis, 27, and bricklayer Ronildo Moreira de Araujo, 29, who were charged with torture.
Torture is considered a heinous crime in Brazil and perpetrators cannot be released on bail.
Local media said the two told police they intend to teach the boy and all thieves a lesson.
Brazilian law prohibits minors to be identified by the media.
To help pay for the tattoo removal, volunteers created an internet fund-raising page.
“The tattoo can be removed, but the scars will remain in my mind,” the boy said.
