Legazpi City, Albay — A hero’s welcome was tendered by the military for the Bicolano soldier killed in action in an encounter against the Maute Group in Marawi City last June 2 as his remains arrived yesterday at the airport, here.
The remains of Private First Class Reymart E. Carloto arrived at noon in a Fokker Plane 10620 of the Philippine Air Force (PAF) from Iligan City, Lanao del Sur and was awarded military honors at the PAF-Tactical Operation Group 5 (TOG-5) base.
The ceremony was led by Col. Juan Alden C. Masagca, commander of the army’s 901st Infantry Brigade of 9th Infantry (Spear) Division, and Legazpi City Mayor Noel Rosal who chairs the Regional Peace and Order Council (RPOC).
The remains of the fallen soldier was then taken to his hometown in Barangay Cogon, Gubat, Sorsogon, accompanied by his mother Maria and sister Rea.
PFC Carloto, 26, single and the youngest among four siblings, was a member of the 51st Infantry Battalion based in Lanao del Sur that fought Maute militants in Barangay Moncado, Kadingilan, Marawi City last Friday.
Mayor Rosal admired for the gallantry and bravery of PFC Carloto who sacrificed his life fighting for peace in Mindanao.
Having lost “the breadwinner” in their family, Maria Carloto said she wished the crisis in Marawi would end soon.
