Zamboanga City – A Philippine Navy vessel of the Naval Forces Western Mindanao (NFWM) responded to a distress call from one of the tankers of Chelsea Shipping Corporation after it suffered an engine failure four nautical miles off Colorado Point,  in Zamboanga City around 8 a.m. Tuesday.

PC 395 (BRP Felix Apolinario) was patrolling the vicinity of Siocon, Zamboanga del Norte when they were given orders to assist MT Denise 2 which reportedly suffered from an engine failure.

Capt. Enrico Peralta, chief security officer of Chelsea Shipping, immediately contacted the Philippine Navy for assistance while the MT Denise 2 was marooned at Colorado Point and its crew fixing the engine.

NFWM immediately responded by sending PC 395 to the area to render security and assistance.

The engine of MT Denise 2 was fixed and she resumed her voyage a few hours later.

The shipping corporation extended its deepest gratitude and appreciation to the Navy for responding to their distressed tanker.

NFWM said it was always ready to provide security and assistance to distressed vessels.
