Health Secretary Paulyn Jean Ubial expressed optimism that the smoke-free Philippines executive order (EO) will soon be signed by President Duterte amid concerns of anti-smoking advocates on the supposed delay.
“We are very optimistic that it will be signed very soon. I know the President, deep in his heart, he wants this Executive Order,” said Ubial.
Ubial explained that she presented the draft EO before the Cabinet only last March.
“It is only about two months. So it is just about the normal processing being applied for this EO for a smoke-free Philippines,” Ubial explained.
The EO has been forwarded to the President for his signature.
Under the proposed EO, cigarette smoking will be banned in all public places nationwide.
