One of the world’s most visited festivals is expecting to break its previous record of six million visitors during the Pahiyas Festival, Mayor Celso Olivier Dator said Saturday (May 6).
He said the municipal executive committee of the Pahiyas Festival projects more than six million local and foreign tourists to visit, with the big volume of visitors coming in on May 15, the day of Pahiyas festival in honor of San Isidro Labrador, the patron saint.
Records of Lucban Tourism Operations Office showed that during 2016 Pahiyas Festival 6,335,025 tourists came. The Department of Tourism recognized the Lukban as top destination for visitors in CALABARZON for three consecutive years.
Dator said that the Pahiyas lined up amazing events starting on May 1 until May 14.
Among these events are: Tiangge, Santacruzan; Mutya ng Lucban; Tapas Ko, Kayod Ko, Labong Luto Ninyo; G. at Bb. Parikitan Pahiyas ; Paligsahan sa Sarap Suman; Sounds stage; Lalahan ng Buntal; Mutya ng Lucban; Arangya Making and cooking contest; Grand Finals- D’ Voice kids; “Karera ng Kabayo; Longgonisa Festival, Pahiyas Indak-Galaw; Alaska Halo-Halong sarap at Saya; Pangkulturang Pagtatanghal, Timpalak Pahiyas Daytime; Timpalak Pahiyas Kutitap; Its Coke time; Grand Parade; “Garbo pa rin”; Awe Dance Studio Dance Recital; Teacher Carlo Dance Workshop Recital; and Magic Music.
Dator added that Pahiyas Festival is a thanksgiving festival to honor the farmers’ patron saint, San Isidro Labrador, during which the whole poblacion –residents and commercials structures –adorn their homes and work sites with farm products and other crafts.
