Three weeks after receiving President Duterte’s dinner invitation, Vice President Leni Robredo has yet to receive word or date from President Rodrigo Duterte about their meeting with their families.
“Until now, we have just waiting on the details (of the meeting),” Robredo’s spokesperson Georgina Hernandez said in a radio interview.
“Like VP Leni said, once she knows the date, where and when it would take place, she is open to this kind of invitation,” Georgina added.
The country’s top two leaders met at the graduation rites of the Philippine National Police Academy last month in Silang, Cavite, where Duterte invited Robredo and her children for dinner.
The Vice President accepted his invitation notwithstanding the worries of her allies that it could be a “political trap.”
This came amid the growing tension between Duterte and Robredo occasioned by the impeachment threats both of them are facing.
Hernandez said Robredo is open to having dinner with Duterte “since it is part of her duties and responsibilities as vice president.”
Boom Enriquez, head of Robredo’s communications team said there is still no definite schedule for the dinner contrary to reports the meeting is set when Duterte returns from his visit to the Middle East.
Earlier, Robredo had declared it is their mutual obligation to “find common ground even though we may disagree on some matters.”
The VP said she considered the gesture from the President as “extending a hand” of reconciliation.
Once the meeting pushes through, the Vice President said she would personally discuss with Duterte her concerns on critical government policies.
