The Department of Agrarian Reform (DAR) welcomed the outcome of the fourth round of peace negotiations between the Philippine government (GRP) and the National Democratic Front of the Philippines (NDF), saying that free land distribution will soon be the guiding principle of agrarian reform in the country.
DAR said free land distribution is one of the basic elements of the Comprehensive Agreement on Socio-Economic Reforms (CASER).
Secretary Rafael Mariano sat down as a member of the GRP contingent and affirmed the crafting of the CASER provisions, including free land distribution to farmers and the dismantling of land monopoly that involves thousands of hectares of agricultural lands.
“Our continuing advocacy to push for the enactment of a genuine agrarian reform law would rectify the inherent flaws, loopholes and defects of previous agrarian reform programs that have exacerbated land monopoly by few landlord-oligarchs,” Mariano said.
