Tacloban City – This province yesterday relaunched the web-based version of the iTax system which aims to improve tax collection, a report from the office of the governor said.
Leyte Governor Leopoldo Dominico Petilla told Manila Bulletin that the relaunch of the i-Tax web page version is an undertaking of the local government unit in cooperation with the Department of the Interior and Local Government, regional office 8, and the Bureau of the Local Government Finance regional office 8.
Petilla said that the i-Tax desktop was launched in 2014 and this year’s relaunching is the enhanced version and the web-based version of the system.
The event, which gathered 88 participants, was also held with the joint conference of the provincial and municipal assessors and treasurers, with the theme: “Bridging the gap of digital division towards improved LGU financial performance.”
The governor said that system is a German technology developed by Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH. It has a computer program and will be used as a tool for tax collection of the municipality to the provincial levels.
Petilla is optimistic that with iTax system in place, the collection of taxes in the province will increase by more than 30 percent. He said it will also provide transparent transactions, faster tax mapping and a faster way to trace delinquent taxpayers.
