By Mike U. Crismundo

Cabadbaran City, Agusan del Norte – Four persons were killed, while their companion was wounded as the group of friends, who had just finished a game of basketball, was waylaid by a still unidentified gunman in Rizal Park of Purok 1, Barangay 3 Poblacion, in this city, Sunday evening.

Killed were Bryan Pagal Luther Lagria, Jade Tagaro, and Ricky Cariras. Wounded and still recuperating from bullet wounds in Butuan City Hospital was Jarred Abasolo, 29.

According to the police, the victims had just finished playing basketball at a nearby gymnasium when they decided to have a few drinks in front of the Coach Repuvlik and Videokebar at around 8:50 p.m.

It was in the middle of that drinking spree that three suspects arrived onboard a motorcycle, with one of them casually approaching the group before firing at them.

Pagal was killed instantly while Tagaro and Lagria were declared dead on-arrival at the Cabadbaran City District Hospital.

Cariras and Abasolo were taken to the Butuan City Hospital, but the former was declared dead minutes after he arrive. Abasolo is still recovering from his wounds.

“Wala mi kalaban, gikan mi ug duwa sa basketball ug miagi ra sa viodeokehan aron magpahulay samtang inom ginagmay ug kalit miabot kining wala namo mailhi nga tawo ug gipamusil kami” (We don’t have any enemies, we just came from playing basketball and passed by at the videoke house for a rest while drinking, when this man we didn’t know shot us), Abasolo said.

As of press time, investigators from the Cabadbaran City Police Station were still conducting a thorough investigation to determine the motive of the incident and identity of the assailant.

Responding elements from Cabadbaran City Police Station and Agusan del Norte Police Provincial Office SOCO team were able to recover eight empty cartridges of a .9mm and caliber-.45 pistol.
