Naval, Biliran – The addition of two power plants will help improve the energy situation in Biliran, a top technical official of the National Grid Corporation of the Philippines (NGCP) said during an energy summit here.
Engr. Sisinio C. Quindao, chief, Ormoc HVDC converter of the NGCP in the Visayas, briefed the participants of the energy summit initiated by Biliran Electric Cooperative (BILECO) Monday at NSU Hostel, Naval, Biliran.
The 54-kilometer transmission line runs from the 69 KV Milagro Ormoc Sub-station to BILECO and Leyte Electric Cooperative (LEYECO) V.
Quindao said upgrading the line will come about after the construction of solar and geothermal power plants in Biliran.
The geothermal plant is expected to produce an initial 5 megawatts and the solar power project, 25 megawatts, he said.
“The transfer of classification from Residual Sub-Transmission Asset (RSTA) to Rate Asset Based (RAB) of this transmission line will result to decrease in sub-transmission charges to the member-consumer and increase power reliability of the electric cooperative,” Quindao added.
He also said the NGCP plans to replace all of its 372 wooden electrical poles after 2020.
